Year 11 students may be reallocated to another House upon enrolment into the Sixth Form.
The aims of the system are:
- To facilitate inter-house competition covering sporting, curricular and cultural activities.
- To provide opportunities for vertical groupings of students with posts of responsibility for older students including the roles of Year 11 Prefect and Sixth Form House Captain.
- To reward exceptional work and effort within the classroom through praise emails and House points with these contributing to overall house point totals.
- To support students in developing personal qualities and attributes such as resilience, competitive spirit, ability to cooperate in a team and ability to lead others.
Students throughout the Academy are awarded house points for exceptional effort and contributions within the classroom or for completing homework to an exemplary standard. Students are also awarded house points for their participation in extra-curricular and super-curricular activities and for achievements in whole-school, year-group or departmental competitions, such as the Ashcroft Booker Prize or Maths Box Challenge.
The House of the Term Trophy is awarded to the House which has achieved the highest number of house points each term. The House Shield is awarded to the House which has accrued the highest number of house points at the end of the academic year. House assemblies take place each Friday morning, with Houses alternating over a fortnightly cycle.
