Course content

All students will study for the 3-year GCSE French exam as part of the EBACC qualification.

Year 9:

GCSE Foundation year – Theme 1 Identity & Culture. Topics to include: Who am I?/ Daily life/ Cultural life.

Year 10:

Theme 2 Local area, holiday and travel. Topics to include: Holidays/Travel and tourist transactions/Town, region and country.

Theme 3: School. Topics to include: What school is like/ School activities.

Year 11:

Theme 4 Future aspirations, study & work. Topics to include: Using languages beyond the classroom/Ambitions/Work.

Theme 5 International and global dimension. Topics to include: Bringing the world together/Environmental issues.


Assessment

Paper 1 – Listening & understanding – 25% Paper 2 – Speaking – 25%

Paper 3 -Reading & understanding – 25% Paper 4 – Writing in French – 25%

All papers are externally assessed, but the speaking exam is conducted in school and then externally assessed.

Students will be entered into either Foundation or Higher level.
