Course Content 

Year 9: 
Higher and Foundation tier: 

Number and Measure; Algebra – the Basics; Fractions, Decimals and Percentage; Ratio and Proportion; Introduction to Surds; Scale Drawings and Bearings; Inequalities; Statistics; Sequences; Straight Line Graphs; Perimeter, Area and Circles; Scatter Graphs; Pythagoras’ Theorem and Trigonometry. 

Year 10:
Foundation tier: 

Construction and Loci; Indices and Standard Form; Compound Measures; 3D Forms, Surface, Area and Volume; Probability; Geometric Transformations; Quadratics, Cubics and Simultaneous Equations. 

Higher tier: 

Constructions and Loci; Further Algebra; Further Fractions, Decimals and Percentage; Standard Form; Compound Measures and Kinematics; Accuracy and Bounds; 3D Forms, Surface Area and Volume; Real Life Graphs; Linear Geometry; Probability; Further Graphs; Inequalities; Direct and Inverse Proportion; Transforming Functions; Further Functions; Representing and Interpreting Data; Geometric Transformations; Similarity and Congruence in 2D and 3D; Further Trigonometry. 

Year 11: 
Foundation tier: 

Vectors; Direct and Inverse Proportion; Similarity and Congruence in 3D. 

The remaining lessons are used for exam preparation and revisiting content covered in Years 9 and 10. 

Higher tier: 

Real Life Graphs; Linear Geometry; Probability; Further Graphs; Inequalities; Direct and Inverse Proportion; Transforming Functions; Further Functions; Representing and Interpreting Data; Geometric Transformations; Similarity and Congruence in 2D and 3D; Further Trigonometry; Circle Theorems and Geometry; Vectors and Geometric Proof. 

The remaining lessons are used for exam preparation and revisiting content covered in Years 9 and 10. 


Assessment 

Paper 1 Written examination: 
  • Non-Calculator assessment
  •  1 hour and 30 minutes (both Foundation and Higher tier papers)   80 marks 
Paper 2 Written examination: 
  • Calculator assessment 
  • 1 hour and 30 minutes (both Foundation and Higher tier papers)   80 marks 
Paper 3 Written examination: 
  • Calculator assessment 
  • 1 hour and 30 minutes (both Foundation and Higher tier papers)   80 marks 

Content in all of GCSE maths can be examined in any of the three papers. Students are examined on a range of question types, focusing on mathematical fluency, mathematical reasoning and problem solving skills.
