Ashcroft Technology Academy (ATA) is looking to appoint TLAs to support teaching provision for those students with Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) or Special Educational Needs.

This role provides an exciting opportunity to work within an Academy that delivers an exceptional level of support for young people with a wide range of additional needs. As part of a skilled and committed team of Teaching and Learning Assistants, postholders will play a vital role in supporting students to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

The postholders will provide flexible support to students with Education Health and Care Plans. Successful applicants will support a range of students in and out of the classroom, ensuring that learners with special needs have full access to the National Curriculum.

The Academy is judged to be an Outstanding school (Ofsted 2021); is heavily oversubscribed for places; achieves outstanding examination results and maintains high standards of student behaviour

Applicants will be expected to have good literacy/numeracy skills and the ability to work as part of a team in a dynamic environment. They should possess excellent personal organisation and ICT skills and have the ability to liaise confidently with staff, parents/carers and external agencies in a commitment to raise student achievement. An ability to identify barriers to student learning and to develop ways of overcoming these is essential. The successful applicants will be confident in working with young people in a school environment and with students who may be in difficult circumstances

There may also be opportunities for applicants with subject-specific expertise, relevant qualifications, or a particular academic interest to focus their support within certain curriculum areas. This could include working more closely within specific departments to help students access subject content and achieve strong academic outcomes.

All posts are 36½ hrs per week for 40 weeks per year although part time working may also be considered. Some flexibility in working hours will be required including supporting a few evening meetings during the academic year.

Ashcroft Technology Academy (ATA) is seeking to appoint an additional member to join our Inclusive Care and Support team in providing support for students at risk of underachieving. The successful applicant will have experience of working with young people in a school environment and who feels confident in dealing with students who may be in difficult circumstances or who display challenging behaviour. The successful applicant will also be expected to work with the Heads of Year, Leadership Group and staff to accommodate students as necessary such that they are integrated back in to mainstream school as and when appropriate.

Applicants will be expected to demonstrate strong literacy and numeracy skills, alongside the ability to work effectively as part of a team within a fast-paced and dynamic school environment. The role requires excellent organisational and ICT skills, as well as the confidence to liaise professionally with staff, parents/carers and external agencies, all with a clear commitment to raising student achievement. A key element of the role is providing high-quality one-to-one mentoring for students who have been identified as experiencing barriers to learning, offering targeted support to help them overcome these challenges and achieve their full potential. The successful applicant will be confident in working with young people, including those facing complex or challenging circumstances, and will be able to build positive, supportive relationships that enable students to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

Building Services Manager

We are seeking to appoint an experienced and well-qualified Building Services Manager in one of the country’s leading secondary schools. The successful candidate will report to the Vice-Principal, will possess a full working knowledge of site-related matters and will lead, develop and manage a dedicated and motivated team of premises assistants and day-time cleaning staff, and a team of part-time cleaners. He or she will have a high-level understanding of both maintenance work and health and safety, and have the appropriate communication skills to liaise with a range of clients including staff, students, contractors and hirers. He or she will also enjoy being in a prominent role in a busy school environment – be very visible, and well-known and respected by staff and students.

The Academy places importance on the appearance of its buildings and dedicates a large budget to ensuring that they are maintained to high order. The postholder will share our vision and will be well supported in proactively managing the team and the buildings. EXAMINATION INVIGILATOR 
 

Line Manager:            Exams Manager

Hourly rate:                £13.50 p/h
 

Purpose: An Invigilator is responsible for maintaining the security of the question papers at all times and conducting exams in accordance to the Joint Council of Qualifications (JCQ) and International Baccalaureate (IB) regulations. Relevant training will be provided.

Responsibilities:

  • To ensure a calm environment in which the students have the best possible opportunity to be successful in their exams.
  • To help organise students at the start and end of each exam.
  • To help provide the correct information and material for successful completion of the exam.
  • To help ensure that the conduct of the exam takes place within the guidelines set down by JCQ and IB. (relevant documents will be supplied)
  • To be vigilant, whilst not disrupting the candidates.
  • To refer to the Exams Manager if it is suspected that malpractice is taking place.

Main Duties:

  • To distribute all exam papers and stationary accurately and according to the seating plans before the exam has begun.
  • To help identify all students in the exam room by referring to the seating plans provided.
  • To help the Exams Manager begin exams by ensuring that students remain under exam conditions from the moment they enter the exam room.
  • To begin and end some exams in the absence of the Exams Manager, with the support of the invigilation team.
  • To ensure that students do not leave the room during an exam (unless escorted for exceptional reasons: always check with the Exams Manager).
  • At the end of an exam, to help make sure that answer booklets have been completed correctly, and to help ensure that question numbers have been entered in the appropriate box on the front of the answer booklets.
  • To help in the collection of exam scripts which need to be collected in order, by candidate number.
  • In the event of any discrepancy or irregularity in the progress of an exam, to give both an initial verbal and subsequent written report to the Exams Manager.
  • Supervising students after an exam until lunch time or the end of the day (In the event of multiple clashes).

Person specification:

                You must

  • have a high standard of spoken English; all communication with candidates in the exam hall is verbal.
  • be numerate and able to read numbers quickly and accurately.
  • be able to get to the location for the exam on time and be punctual and reliable.
  • be able to commit to working throughout the exam period; specific times or days may be excluded due to other commitments but this must be made clear at the time of application per season and confirmed prior to the shift allocation process.
  • have a good understanding of the exam process, regulations and protocol, and be able to deal with difficult or urgent situations. Relevant training will be provided.
  • have the ability to lead and to work as part of a team.
  • be able to work efficiently under direction.
  • be discreet.
  • be mindful of candidates’ special educational needs.
  • be respectful of maintaining confidentiality.
  • undertake invigilator training with the Academy in preparation for the role

Invigilators are expected to be vigilant at all times in the exam room and will therefore not be able to bring reading or other materials for use during the exam sitting. Please note that this applies to all exam sittings in all venues. Please note that invigilating can be physically demanding.

Exam details:

Exams take place during May and June each year. The length of sessions per day can vary, and with organisation prior to and at the end of exams, hours of work will be flexible. We are looking for people who can commit to at least five sessions per week, but the sessions can vary week on week.

There are two main exam sessions per day (AM and PM), Monday to Friday. Although, this can vary depending on the timetable.

  • Morning sessions 08.00 – 12.00
  • Afternoon sessions 13.00 – 17:00

Exams are held in various venues within the Academy. Additionally, candidates requiring special access arrangements sit exams in separate venues.
