Last Friday, the Year 9 GCSE Music class visited the Horniman Museum in Forest Hill to explore their vast instrument collection and to take part in a Gamelan workshop.

GCSEs in England are changing. The courses and exams have been changed to ensure that young people have the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the 21st century. The new GCSEs will ensure that students leave school prepared to work or further study. They cover more challenging content and are designed to match standards in the strongest performing education systems elsewhere in the world.

On Tuesday evening, the final recital of the Ashcroft Poetry Competition 2017 took place in the drama studio. Student from Years 7, 8 and 9 stepped into the spotlight and performed a mixture of their favourite work by published poets and their self-penned poems in front of an audience of parents and teachers
Year 7 and 8 Honours students had the opportunity to visit the Winton Gallery at the Science Museum and introduced to the powerful stories about the work of mathematicians in the broadest sense, from salespeople to sailors, aircraft engineers to bankers, and gamblers to garden designers.
Last Saturday, our Oxbridge group of 20 students attended an Oxbridge preparation day to support them in their applications to either Oxford or Cambridge university.
Praise is due to the Year 9s below, who represented the Academy last Friday in the Hyde Park ‘Speak Up’ Challenge. They demonstrated excellent debating skills, confidence and intelligence, and were impeccably well behaved throughout the day.
